Juniper Networks (News - Alert) MX960 Ethernet Services Routers are helping XO Communications to increase its IP network capacity to support accelerating traffic growth and services.

Juniper said that the deployment of a service-enabling network based on the MX-series will aid XO to reduce operational costs, while accelerating the speed with which it can introduce new services.

Randy Nicklas, chief technology officer at XO Communications (News - Alert) said that
XO is experiencing increasing demand for high-speed IP transit solutions from both large enterprises and wholesale customers to support the growing bandwidth-intensive requirements of their networks and end users.

By using Juniper’s MX960, XO can provide the most advanced network infrastructure to support their high-performance IP services, stay ahead of the demand from their customers for more bandwidth, and continue to monetize their network by rapidly introducing new services.

Deployed in major metropolitan locations nationwide, Juniper Networks MX960 Ethernet Services Routers will deliver a three-fold increase in capacity across the edge of the XO IP network to support services such as video streaming, voice over IP, gaming, ecommerce, and online file sharing.

One of the largest-capacity Carrier Ethernet platforms available on the market today, the MX960 platform boasts up to 960 gigabits per second (Gbps) of switching and routing capacity, which enables more revenue per platform and provides the scalability to support the growth of the XO network.

XO intends to use the Juniper MX960 platform for supporting a variety of XO services, including High Speed IP Transit, IP-VPN and voice over IP (VoIP) services for businesses, large enterprises and wholesale customers. By leveraging the additional capacity, XO Communications will be able to continue meeting customer demand for higher speed IP transit services at speeds of 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps.

Manoj Leelanivas, senior vice president and general manager, Edge and Aggregation Business Unit, Juniper Networks observed that the demand for high-performance Internet access is growing. XO Communications picked the MX960 as it drives network monetization by cost-effectively supporting high performance services at scale.

“Juniper is pleased to be providing XO Communications with a service-enabling network infrastructure and support XO's expansion into the high-growth IP transit services market,” he stated.
