Wholesale hosted and trunk-based VoIP solutions provider, New Global Telecom (News - Alert) (NGT) has announced the signing of Atlantic Broadband, a top 15 cable operator. The agreement provides that NGT will become the managed services provider for Atlantic Broadband’s SIP-based telephony solutions for both residential and business end users.

"We wanted a partner for our SIP initiatives that could provide a managed solution that encompasses both basic residential services as well as the most advanced commercial offerings, including next generation trunking and PBX replacement,” said David Isenberg, vice president of products for Atlantic Broadband, in a Wednesday statement.

“We found that and more in NGT. [They] have a field-proven BroadSoft (News - Alert)-based solution as well as the operational elements and expertise that will enable us to reliably deliver best-in-class SIP telephony services."

In addition to key back office functionality like provisioning, usage rating or complete end user billing, the NGT service offers a range of residential and commercial feature packages, telephone numbers throughout the U.S., FCC-compliance 911 and session border controller (SBC) management and network monitoring services. Integrated voice origination and termination services from Level 3 are a key component of the service.

"NGT and Level 3 have fine tuned their integrated VoIP solution over the past three years to ultimately address the next growth engine for the cable industry, which is business voice," said Rich DiGeronimo, vice president and general manager of cable markets for Level 3, in Wednesday’s statement.

"The NGT and Level 3 voice solution delivers cable operators an end-to-end service that enables them to rapidly and confidently launch a proven solution to their end users."

"As the first to deploy converged video-internet-phone 'triple-plays' in many of its markets, Atlantic Broadband is leveraging the power and flexibility of its broadband network to deploy the most advanced suite of phone services possible -- not just for residential customers but to meet the demanding needs of small and medium-sized businesses in their footprint as well," contributed John Guillaume, senior vice president, product and marketing for NGT, in Wednesday’s statement.

“NGT's wholesale VoIP services will enable Atlantic Broadband to remain ahead of the competition with proven, feature-rich services that their entire range of customers can use today."

Residential voice services in select Atlantic Broadband markets in Q3 will be enabled with the NGT service. This move will be followed by a launch of advanced business voice services later this year.

Rebecca Swensen, research analyst, VoIP services for analyst firm IDC (News - Alert), noted that NGT’s focus on end-to-end service delivery will deliver great benefits in the cable MSO marketplace. The company’s experience managing disparate VoIP elements and software solutions will help them navigate interoperability and day-to-day challenges.

NGT's wholesale VoIP service is currently offered as part of triple-play offerings from cable MSOs and Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) providers.  NGT, in conjunction with Level 3, plans to profile its VoIP solutions for cable operators at the CableLabs (News - Alert) Summer Conference, August 5-8th in Keystone, CO

NGT’s signing with Atlantic Broadband not only opens up significant opportunity for both companies, it also extends bundled services to both residential and business users seeking high quality and low cost services that address all of their needs.

The cable market is consistently trying to compete with other providers in a space that tightens competitively on a daily basis. NGT’s experience in VoIP management and software will not only position them to manage this relationship to its full potential, but to also deliver everything the end customer needs, thus helping to drive demand.
