Foundry Networks Passes Department of Defense VoIP Testing Certification
By Anshu Shrivastava TMCnet Contributing Editor Foundry Networks (News - Alert) has announced that its backbone and edge routing and switching solutions have passed the Department of Defense (DoD) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) Assured Services Voice Application Local Area Networking (ASVALAN) interoperability testing.
This latest announcement confirms that Company’s latest routers and switches are now fully tested and certified to be interoperable. In addition, the products can now operate with JITC-certified Voice over IP (VoIP) systems in DoD networks using standards-based Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols for switching and routing.
For Foundry product portfolio, this is the second successful JITC ASVALAN certification. Company officials said that these certifications demonstrate the “company’s commitment to high-performance networking solutions” for federal and government customers.
“JITC certification demonstrates Foundry's commitment and ability to provide networking products and solutions that meet the stringent and thorough requirements of the Department of Defense,” said Jay Hatch, vice president of Federal Sales at Foundry Networks.
Coordinated by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), the JITC certification involves a “demanding” procedure of system and interoperability tests.
JITC certification, officials said, ensures that products operate without performance degradation in a multi-vendor environment, and offer the military features and functionality required for national security.
The certification validates functionality of attributes such as jitter, delay and packet loss. Officials said that the validation is required for all products that support voice, data or video communications connecting to the Defense Switched Network.
Hatch said in a statement that government organizations can now purchase Foundry high-performance networking solutions with “confidence,” knowing they are interoperable with their choice of available VoIP solutions and will maintain high-performance and full capabilities regardless of the environment.'
Foundry is a provider of high-performance enterprise and service provider switching, routing, security and Web traffic management solutions, including Layer 2/3 LAN switches, Layer 3 Backbone switches, Layer 4-7 application switches, wireless LAN and access points, metro and core routers.
The Foundry products that have passed the JITC ASVALAN certification are the NetIron XMR Series backbone routers, the NetIron MLX Series metro routers. Additional products include the BigIron RX Series backbone switches, and the FastIron Edge, Edge X, GS, LS and SX compact switches.
Last month, Company announced that Fibertech Networks has deployed Foundry's NetIron XMR MPLS multi-service backbone routers and the FastIron family of Layer 2/3 switches.
