Fibertech Deploys Foundry Networks Backbone Routers and Edge Switches

Fibertech Networks said that it deployed Foundry Networks’ (News - Alert) NetIron XMR MPLS multi-service backbone routers and FastIron family of Layer 2/3 switches.

While NetIron XMR MPLS multi-service backbone routers have been deployed to power its wide area next-generation metropolitan network, the FastIron family of Layer 2/3 switches have been deployed for network access layer requirements.

Foundry officials said that the NetIron XMR multi-service backbone routers offer 10 gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) density, along with offering Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)-capability and manageability.

In order to complement the NetIron XMR routers, Fibertech deployed the FastIron Edge, Edge X and LS families of Layer 2/3 switches at the network edge.

Officials said that the FastIron series of switches offered Fibertech a “complimentary high-performance and cost-effective” solution for its customer premises equipment (CPE) needs through hardware redundancy.

Fibertech, a provider of metropolitan broadband access, selected Foundry solutions to provide an inter-metro backbone routing and edge switching solution that would meet its technical requirements.

“As a premier metropolitan service provider, Fibertech absolutely requires the highest performance, reliability, scalability and flexibility when it comes to selecting the ideal infrastructure and networking solutions for our network,” said Earl Ipsaro, vice president of Engineering at Fibertech.

He also said that Foundry delivered backbone routers and edge switches that exceeded his company’s intensive requirements at a compelling price for performance value and dramatically lower total cost of ownership.

“Fibertech Networks’ selection of Foundry’s backbone routers and switches validates the importance of providing networking solutions with the features, scalability and performance for customer needs today and in the future,” said Ken Cheng, vice president and general manager for High-End and Service Provider Systems Business Unit at Foundry.
